But who's supposed to Police the Police..?

It saddens and frustrates me that as a society we are growing to FEAR the ones who should be our Saviors. Our Protectors. The people and agencies that should help us be, and FEEL as safe as they possibly can... I'm talking of course about the Police. Now I would never be as ignorant to say that ALL police officers are "crooked" or live above the law, but the trends and statistics surrounding police misconduuct are stagering...

Here are some unsavory facts about the people that are SUPPPOSED to be SERVING and PROTECTING

Nationally
•1 out of every 846 (118.2 per 100k) police officers will be accused of sexual assault.
•1 out of every 3,413 (29.3 per 100k) citizens will be accused of sexual assault.

•68% of civilians charged are ultimately convicted
•31% of police officers charged are ultimately convicted

•28% of convicted citizens are sentenced to probation
•38% of convicted police officers are sentenced to probation

$$$$ Reported cost of civil litigation (civilian lawsuits) in the months of April 2009 through September 2009 (6 months), $128,306,406 (Yep, thats an quarter billion dollar annual industry)

So you probably think this a big city problem, and are wondering how quiet old Oregon ranks among law abiding law officers?  Right?
How about Oregon ranks as the 5th highest state of police misconduct per officer in the Nation...

SHIT...

From a MULTI-AGENCY steriod abuse and distribution ring http://www.oregonlive.com/clackamascounty/index.ssf/2010/05/canby_steroid_suppliers_cooper.html

To gratuitous personal stalking and harrasment from those like Portland's Joseph E. Wild

To the recent, and unprovoked murders and severe woundings of PDX citizens Aaron Campbell(1/10), James Chasse(9/06), Osmar Lovaina-Bermudez(8/09), George Hawking(10/08) Raymond Gwerder (11/05) to name a few.

It is glaringly obvious that it's time to Police our Police!!!

The great thing about America is that you are all free to form your own opinion of our boys in blue, I know that I have... and like I said, they're not all bad... right?

If you would like to file a complaint about the conduct of PDX officer, or would like to question the (lack of) punishment for officers with multiple complaints, and those who act outside of the law. Please contact the IPR (independant police review committee) @ ipr@portlandoregon.gov. They are on your side. And for more information on the complaint proccess itself, check out http://www.portlandonline.com/police/index.cfm?c=30548
