Music From Our Neighbor Up North

When most people think of Seattle the they think Pike's Market, and the Space Needle.  If you're a blasphemer you might also think about the Seattle Sounders Soccer team... But like I said, that's if you're blasphemer =) My point being, when was the last time you thought about the music scene in Seattle..? Probably not since Mix-a-Lot dropped Baby Got Back!  Which is crazy because Seattle is doing it... and HAS been doing it... So after spending a week up in Seattle this past week, I thought I could share my 5 favorite things about the city... In No Particular Order...

Blue Scholars - No Rest For The Weary

Common Market - Swell

Macklemore - I say hey

Grieves - Rebecca

Okay, and for the Old School...

The Streets Are Watching... Are You Looking Back..?

Recently I've been a little preoccupied with street art, and the amazing talents that risk arrest and negative public opinion to do what they love... To hone their craft and express themselves to an often unaccepting world in whatever medium they choose...

Wheather it's something HUGE that dominates a building and is impossible to ignore...

Or something so small it takes a wandering eye to even notice...

These creative minds are the people that animate the lifeless and add beauty and ART to the drab and the dull... So next time you're out around your city, take a look around you and you might be surprised at what you really see...

Mister12Gage doin work in Portland!

"I've always thought it was strange to see large images of celebrities, models and news anchors on walls, billboards, and buses. I've wondered why these people are adorning our walls and public spaces instead of the individuals that make up our community. This project serves as a physical representation of the city of Portland through drawings of it's inhabitants.

Everyone pictured is completely unknowing and chosen at random. Whether your reaction is positive or negative, please let me know by emailing me at pasteyoface@gmail.com. I'd like to hear your initial reaction, as well as what you think now that you know what this is all about.

I'm sorry or you're welcome, depending on how you feel about this."... Mister12Gage

I apologize for the gruesome nature of my last post... So to even the field I offer you the CUTEST IMAGE IN THE WORLD... enjoy

Oh Me So Horny!

This is probably one the gnarliest things I have ever seen!!! Can you imagine how big of a plug you can fit in that!?!?  How do you even size it!? Custom fo sure... Either way, Fernandez here insantly became the "PUNKEST" Matador on the set!  I can just picture him tring to drink a beer and getting it everywhere... "Damn Fernandez, what is there a hole in your lip!?"

Oh and of course I found you a video! It's a motivational piece I like to call "Keep your chin up" =)

WARNING NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH

Personally, I think it's what he gets for stabbing an animal with a bunch of spears for the amusement of the crowd... Hey Fernandez, How does it feel...?

But who's supposed to Police the Police..?

It saddens and frustrates me that as a society we are growing to FEAR the ones who should be our Saviors. Our Protectors. The people and agencies that should help us be, and FEEL as safe as they possibly can... I'm talking of course about the Police. Now I would never be as ignorant to say that ALL police officers are "crooked" or live above the law, but the trends and statistics surrounding police misconduuct are stagering...

Here are some unsavory facts about the people that are SUPPPOSED to be SERVING and PROTECTING

Nationally
•1 out of every 846 (118.2 per 100k) police officers will be accused of sexual assault.
•1 out of every 3,413 (29.3 per 100k) citizens will be accused of sexual assault.

•68% of civilians charged are ultimately convicted
•31% of police officers charged are ultimately convicted

•28% of convicted citizens are sentenced to probation
•38% of convicted police officers are sentenced to probation

$$$$ Reported cost of civil litigation (civilian lawsuits) in the months of April 2009 through September 2009 (6 months), $128,306,406 (Yep, thats an quarter billion dollar annual industry)

So you probably think this a big city problem, and are wondering how quiet old Oregon ranks among law abiding law officers?  Right?
How about Oregon ranks as the 5th highest state of police misconduct per officer in the Nation...

SHIT...

From a MULTI-AGENCY steriod abuse and distribution ring http://www.oregonlive.com/clackamascounty/index.ssf/2010/05/canby_steroid_suppliers_cooper.html

To gratuitous personal stalking and harrasment from those like Portland's Joseph E. Wild
http://www.portlandtribune.com/news/story.php?story_id=124942807577906800

To the recent, and unprovoked murders and severe woundings of PDX citizens Aaron Campbell(1/10), James Chasse(9/06), Osmar Lovaina-Bermudez(8/09), George Hawking(10/08) Raymond Gwerder (11/05) to name a few.

It is glaringly obvious that it's time to Police our Police!!!

The great thing about America is that you are all free to form your own opinion of our boys in blue, I know that I have... and like I said, they're not all bad... right?

If you would like to file a complaint about the conduct of PDX officer, or would like to question the (lack of) punishment for officers with multiple complaints, and those who act outside of the law. Please contact the IPR (independant police review committee) @ ipr@portlandoregon.gov. They are on your side. And for more information on the complaint proccess itself, check out http://www.portlandonline.com/police/index.cfm?c=30548

I hate to say this, but this still might be the funniest thing I have ever seen...

Portland's Best Hot Dog? Got my Vote...

There's a new Sheriff in town when it comes to the food cart world... Their name..?  BIG FAT WEINERS. This stop is a Must for anyone lookig to grab a quick bite downtown! I have eaten there everyday now since discovering this little gem, on 2nd and Ash (across from The Thirsty Lion).  From their Philly Cheesesteak Dog, that will rival any cheesesteak sandwhich you've ever had, to their Smashed Avacado and Frito Dog...  Yes, those Fritos. These Dogs are the real deal! Not to mention the stand is continuously pounding the best of hip hop while you wait, and heckling all that pass by to get a hold of their Big Fat Weiners... So just admit it... Doesn't everyone want a Big Fat Weiner? I sure do.

An art lovers must see: Banksy's "Exit through the gift shop"

Last night a movie with a ton of hype in the underground art world opened here in Portland. "Banksy's Exit through the gift shop". As many of you know Banksy and his true identity are a complete mystery, yet he is one of street art's most successful artists. With some original pieces selling for 300,000 english pounds or more, to people like Brad and Angelina, and Christina Aguilera. This movie however isn't as much about the amazing Banksy as much as they'd like you to believe... It in fact is more about Thierry Guetta, a french filmmaker with a deep love for guerilla street art. With never before seen footage of some of the biggest names in Street art (Shepard Fairey included), this movie is a must see for any art lover.
